We are delighted to announce that Silverlinks has been listed as one of the Big Lottery’s Silver Dreams Flagship projects. Care & Repair England have been awarded £1million to expand Silverlinks to other areas across the UK. We will continue with the peer support work in Leeds and Bristol, and set up similar projects in other areas around England over the next four years.
The funding will enable us to support many more older people who are facing times of crisis with regard to their housing, including involving and training more older volunteers, running more “planning ahead” workshops and providing information and advice about housing & care to thousands more older people.
We’re really pleased with how the pilot project has worked out so far – to date our fantastic volunteers have talked to over 700 older people about their future housing ; including conversations, telephone calls or home visits with over 120 older people, and over 140 older people have attended “Planning Ahead” workshops in Bristol and “Pass it On” training, which was piloted in Manchester. Around 100 older people have been involved in having their say on how “age friendly” their neighbourhood is. You can read about many of our activities and case studies in previous post on this blog.
Over the next few years we hope to build on the current work; support thousands more older people; and create a network of people and organisations who are able to share invaluable information, advice and offer support to older people to help them make well informed decisions about their housing.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the pilot and we hope you are as excited as we are about the potential of Silverlinks to really make a difference.
